Advisory Committees

Participation by Lake residents as volunteer members of Town Boards and Committees is essential to the continued flourishing of our democratic system of local town government. Without the active input of citizens it would be impossible for our Town to function as successfully as it does with the level of resources our community can generate.

The Town Board is charged with identifying as well as approving committee nominations. These boards deal with such diverse issues as architecture (Advisory Committee on Architecture and  Community Appearance), maintenance of integrity and reviews of conflicts of interest (Board of Ethics), the strong thread of conservation and maintenance of a bio-diverse base (Commission for the Conservation of the Environment) and the arts (Putnam Valley Committee for the Arts). Our Town has a proud tradition not only of encouraging the arts through our schools but also has a vibrant and long history of acknowledging the contributions of our residents, be they WPA mural painters whose works still cover the walls of the Court Room at Town Hall, to persons with world-wide reputations in music, i.e., the composer David Amram.
